High in the Himalayas stands the serene Mount Kailash. For thousands of years pilgrims of many faiths have visited this beautiful mountain seeking spiritual purification and transformation. Tibetan Buddhists call it 'Khang Rinpoche', meaning 'precious jewel of snow', and they revere it as the home of a deity who represents supreme bliss. It is the precious glacial snow of Kailash that is the source of four mighty rivers— the Brahmaputra, the Sutlej, Ganges and the Indus.
Annapurna Foothills Treks specializes in pilgrimages in Tibet and Nepal. Some of our top selling packages are the Kailash overland tour, Kaialsh by helicopter tour, and the Muktinath tour. An expert Sherpa team who are reliable, friendly, and dedicated to providing excellent service will make sure you enjoy the gifts of the gods and nature to the fullest.
For Hindus, it is the throne of their god, Shiva, and the symbol of his power. For Jains, it is the place where the first prophet attained Nirvana. For the pre-Buddhist Bon believers, it is the seat of spiritual power where their founder, Shanrab, is said to have descended from heaven. For everyone, regardless of their faith, Mount Kailash has enough precious attributes to captivate the soul. For everyone it is the ultimate beauty of nature.
The rugged 52 km trail, the 'Kailash Kora', crosses mountain streams and leads over the 5630-meter Dolma La pass. It takes physical strength and endurance at this altitude to complete it in three days, although some locals seeking special blessing cover the distance in a single day. One time around the mountain is believed to erase the accumulated sins of a lifetime, while 108 revolutions earn Salvation or Nirvana.
Another scenic delight is Lake Manasarovar nestled below the snow-capped Mount Kailash. At 4560 meters elevation, its sparkling turquoise water is frigid, but pilgrims complete their spiritual quest by bathing and drinking from it. Hindus believe that the holy Manasovar is the bathing place of god Shiva and goddess Parvati and one who drinks water from the lake will be cleansed of all his sins committed a hundred lifetimes over, and will dwell with Lord Shiva after death. Buddhists believe Lord Buddha was conceived here and that he meditated by this lake on several occasions.
