Mt. Makalu, 8463m, is the fifth highest mountain in the world and lies just to the southeast of Mt. Everest. But the area is accessed from the Eastern Arun Valley. The fact that its inaccessibility only makes this region more exotic. The entire trek is within the Makalu-Barun National Park and Conservation Area, a place internationally recognized for its outstanding natural beauty and diversity of flora and fauna.
